Protect your privacy

As you probably know, the main search engines, social medias and other Web services like Google, Facebook, and Twitter know a lot of details about your life. Privacy on the Internet no longer exists. You probably believe as I do myself that your online privacy should be protected, but maintain your anonymity on the web simply can't be done. Everything you put out on Internet can be seen and used by the online companies.

All the major online companies are collecting personal informations about you. Everything you search on Google, Bing and Yahoo! is logged. Do you know how Google and Facebook make so much money? You are the product. They are tracking everything you do online, what are your favorite search terms, which sites you visit, on which forums you post, on which blogs you comment. Then they create a profile of you and sell it to advertisers.

All this tracking is done without your consent. Most people even do't know they are tracked by Google, Facebook etc. Maybe I am old fashioned, but in my opinion these huge companies should not track their customers the way they do. Privacy must be protected. If you use Google, Bing, Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook, you simply have no online privacy.

The fact is, Google's products are free because we have implicitly agreed they can use our profile and our personal informations appearing online. All the online companies have elaborate "privacy policies" filled with lawyers' jargon, but all of that means nothing. They are using our personnal data mostly to target us with ads. A lot of people reveal their private lives on the Internet, and they have no idea of that.

It's a fact that there is no real privacy on the Internet. So what can we do? We as consumers need to be smart, very smart. If you want Google and Facebook out of your daily digital lives, don't use them. Stop to search with Google if you want privacy. The problem is, Google and Facebook have become very present in our lives. For most of us, it seems nearly impossible to stop using that kind of services.

It is very hard to take control of what Google and Facebook know about you. Even if you delete some personal informations, it seems it stay stored and been used customize ads for you. What you can do is using some alternative tools, let me talk about two of them.

An excellent search engine alternative to Google is DuckDuckGo. I already tried it, it is very good. DuckDuckGo does not record your personal information and does not sell or share it with anyone else. To keep you anonymous whenever you browse the Web, you can use Tor. I still didn't tried it out, but one day I will.

Good luck, and don't forget: *Big Brother Is Watching you!*
