History of Kosovo

Kosovo was an empire under the reign of Stefan Dušan in the fourteenth century. It was as populous as England then. Religious buildings flourished throughout the country and particularly in Kosovo. This region of southern Serbia was the heart of the Serbian empire, with royal residences in the cities of Novo Brdo and Prizren (which was one of the most important Balkan exchange zones).

Kosovo became a State against the advice of its historical population

The Serbs, people of laborers, inhabited the plains where they cultivated the land, while the Albanian people of breeders, dwell on high and indulging in the pastoral art. Each in its place, each in his role. Economic interdependence and respect for the living space were these two populations had good relationships without any war or opposed the battle.

The Kosovo was a land of peace, culture and art. No one would have thought then that in a not too distant future, their descendants would live the horror of the massacres and exile. The torment of living prisoner in his own land and see the religious buildings built with so much trouble and the attention to detail, dynamite without nobody émeuve, now represents the daily life of this population.

Because history has caught up with Serbia. When the Serbian national consciousness grew, the artists created works of great wealth taking sometimes the front of Byzantium, when the Serbs could see a future as flowering than other Western European countries, took Asia form the power that would destroy future generations.

Under the thumb of Osman I, the Ottoman Empire-that is to say the Ottoman- empire took birth. Leading a policy of systematic aggression against European civilization, the Ottoman troops managed to seal their grip on the European continent in 1389. fateful date that will forever remain etched in the memory of the Serbian people. The Ottoman army, powerful and numerous wants sweep over the whole of Europe to submit to his authority and his politico-religious law.

Facing the Sultan Murat leading Ottoman troops, stands the army of Serbian Prince Lazar. Serbs are outnumbered and are less well equipped than the Turks. The unequal battle looming no hope about the chances of victory of the Serbs. Yet Prince Lazar will choose to go to confrontation, preferring to die for freedom than live in slavery, Lazar chose the kingdom of heaven to the earthly kingdom he might have kept in submitting. Darting June 28, 1389 in the plain of Merles field (Kosovo Polje) with his bravest soldiers, Prince Lazar was captured and beheaded. If this is done for the one who will become the Saint Lazar, his sacrifice will be told generation after generation to the deeper Kosovo enclaves today.

The Serbian army is completely defeated, annihilated. It remains a slave living on the vast plains of Kosovo Polje. The sacrifice of these heroes is not unlike that of the 300 Spartans of Leonidas who, 1900 years ago, died at the hands of an Asian army in a heroic struggle in which already faced two worldviews. The message sent Leonidas in Sparta is that of Lazar sent to Europe: Europe's son died in Kosovo Polje to honor his oldest law: freedom. This defeat of the Serbian army is a European defeat. Thus, Charles VI will ring the bells of Notre Dame when he learns the annihilation of Serbian troops, signaling the end of European civilization in the Balkans for five centuries.

The Christians of Kosovo now belong to the "rayah" that are "dhimmis", that is to say in public in Islam. They can not hold high administrative functions, have no right to own land or weapons, they are subject to additional taxes, and do not have the right to prosecute a Muslim. To all this is added the "devshirme", literally "gathering" in Turkish, which is nothing but a blood tax. The Ottomans took off regularly in all the Christian villages of the empire the bravest children who would become, after their conversion to Islam, the elite troops of the Sultan. This practice had the dual aim of providing to the Sublime Porte the best European blood while weakening the rebels who do not wish to kill a relative in the fighting. This lower position, the Kosovo Serbs will keep until 1912.

Imagine a Serbian grandmother who dies under the NATO bombs in 1999 in the shame of belonging to a demonized people, under a so-called depleted uranium rain "humanitarian". This old lady that expires in Kosovo was born in servitude to be Christian in Islam. The soldiers of the international forces which intervened in Kosovo in 1999 could they imagine, they only knew that these old Serbian peasants fleeing the massacres had been submitting to Islam? What was learned in the distant history books had been lived in their flesh by these refugees that had like criminals ... The life of this lady alone represents the drama of all Kosovo Serbs since 1389 have never known peace. War, slavery and pogroms affect each generation in this former haven became hell.

If the Turks were driven out of Kosovo in 1912, how is it that there is always so much conflict in this land, nearly a century later? A historical turn much more serious and significant that the Ottoman conquest took place in the Balkans in the short 17th century. Apostasy Albanians, their conversion to Islam would seal the foundations of a conflict that still continues today. Having no strong national consciousness, nor Emperors or Saints which relate to the conversion of Albanians to Islam would be more easily compared to their religion, and one could say today to politics, has always been interested. "Where is the sword the faith," said the Albanian proverb. Turkish sword and was about to hit hard on the Albanians.

The majority of Albanians were going to convert to Islam, while the Serbs would remain subject to the same punishments faithful to Orthodoxy. The Turks now use these new converts to carry out the dirty work of repression on these rebellious infidels who constantly provoked revolts. Islamised Albanians were leaving their mountain and down in Serb plains occupy administrative positions and military with "Dhimmis" are private. We begin at that time to have the first Muslim Albanian minorities in Kosovo. As can be verified today in France with the converts to Islam, new Muslims are often more zealous Muslims of old stock.

This was the case in Kosovo, where the new Albanian converted committed unspeakable atrocities which forced some sultans even ask them to calm their warlike fervor against Christians, preferring to escape, no longer working for the empire's account Ottoman. Thus in 1690 and in 1737 there are nearly 140,000 Serbs fleeing Albanian repression to the steps of the Austro-Hungarian Empire that will ensure their protection against part of the commitment of Serbs to defend the border against the Ottoman Empire . The border guard image of Europe was to be born and never dull since the guardians of the 2000 bridge in Kosovska Mitrovica in the biological and spiritual descendants. This Serb exodus was filled by ever more massive arrival of Albanians who came to occupy the houses and lands abandoned by Christians, amplifying the phenomenon.
